Wrapped in soft white fur, a blue ribbon in her powdered hair, the Venetian artist portrays herself as the season of Winter. Every touch is pastel, blended so delicately the fur seems to move. Carriera made pastel the rage of eighteenth-century Europe and was elected to the Paris Académie in 1720.
