Daniel in the Lions' Den – Peter Paul Rubens
£79.00
Peter Paul Rubens, c. 1614–1616. National Gallery of Art, Washington.
Cast into a den of lions, Daniel prays through the night as the beasts yawn, stare, sleep and snarl around him. Rubens studied real lions and painted them nearly life-size; at their feet, a gnawed skull hints at the den's earlier victims.
